But because of people like Sincerely Becca who are open about their lives, I'm able to look through the window, so to speak, and write with a little more realism. I always think realism inspires compassion, and that's my only goal.

Thanks for reading and commenting. That is no easy feat! I have a daughter on the spectrum which is another minority in the sea of minorities as ASD is diagnosed more frequently in boys rather than girls. I also have a Facebook page called Ketchup With a Side of Autism and I blog over at AAPC (Autism and Aspergers Publishing Company). I discuss our journey on both pages. Thanks again for giving a voice to our kiddos and to us! We aren't looking for sympathy, just compassion. The truth is that no two children on the spectrum are the same, so all of our experiences vary drastically. But knowing that authors are trying to create realistic characters who just happen to have an autism disorder is wonderful. Have you followed the hashtag?...Yes, it's true! Have you followed the hashtag? It's amazing. I think the response from men has been a confused mix of "I'm not like this" and "another man bashing thing, yay." But I guess I think it's not man bashing, it's exposing REAL issues. If you're a guy and you're not like this, then the next time you see it happening, instead of turning a blind eye, try to figure out a way to say something. If a million good guys do this, things will change. It'll take time. But I see it happening. :)Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17532780750550663093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-911797426108915085.post-60312335046609520352014-06-01T05:38:05.549-07:002014-06-01T05:38:05.549-07:00HA! As a nur...It's a tough lesson in our society.

As a nurse, I didn't have to worry about what I wore to work for years, but for a short time (thankfully!!!), I took an office job, and I couldn't believe how all the women assessed each other and commented on what they wore, or what they'd done to their hair, etc.

They made me feel 'less' and that's not a nice feeling, and so in subtle ways, we learn to worry about how we look.

How many times have you read the research on how much first impressions count? This is fed to us constantly, not to mention all the beautiful women all over the media.

But, I'd like you to know that we're not all like that. I'd be more likely to have a good first impression of you if you were messy beautiful, because for starters, I'd know you wouldn't be judging my messy beautiful,

Keep on being a great mom.

I love this post.
